Grass Fed Highland Cattle
Where do they
come from?
Highland cattle originated in Scotland as far back as the 6th century, making them one of the oldest breeds in the world. Their distinct coats are the longest of any breed and are composed of two layers, a long shaggy outer coat and a downy undercoat.
What do they eat
on the farm?
Highlands are also great foragers and commonly graze on plants and weeds other cattle won’t touch. This reduces weed pressure and improves the pasture. Their moderate frame means they consume less grass than larger breeds, which makes them ideal for our small family farm.
How about their
beef though?
A study by Charles Bruce at the University of Glasgow in Scotland showed that Pure Highland beef was 23% more tender, had almost 7% more protein, 17% more iron, and over 4% less cholesterol than commercial beef.
